From Kara Karinyosa to Gandang Kara: The Many Voices of Klariz Magboo
A viewer might recognize her voice from a Filipino-dubbed anime. A radio listener might remember her as Kara Lambingera, Kara Karinyosa, or Gandang Kara. Someone discovering her on YouTube might know her through a conversation, a collaboration, or the on-screen partnership called KarJack.
Behind those names is Klariz Laurelle Magboo, a Filipino voice actress, broadcaster, and digital creator whose work has moved between recording studios, FM radio booths, and online video.
Her story is especially interesting because radio was not where her relationship with the microphone began. Before she became a personality speaking to listeners as herself, she was helping bring other people’s characters to life.
Voice acting gave her an early foundation. A 2023 profile published by The VoiceMates says she began dubbing at 12. Her credits include Filipino-language performances as Ash Ketchum in Pokémon, Tenma Tsukamoto in School Rumble, and Mikan Sakura in Alice Academy, among other animated roles. These credits are also listed in the introduction to her 2020 appearance on The VoiceMaster Show.
For someone unfamiliar with dubbing, the work involves performing a character’s dialogue in another language while preserving the scene’s meaning and emotion. Timing matters. So do changes in pace, age, mood, and personality.
That experience helps explain the range behind Kara’s broadcasting career. The microphone was already familiar; becoming a radio personality required her to develop a different relationship with the person listening.
According to The VoiceMates account, she initially felt that radio demanded an outgoing personality quite different from her own shy disposition. Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales, whom she calls Kuya Choy, encouraged her to try broadcasting. His place in her professional development is also reflected in her appearance on his podcast, whose introduction specifically highlights his role in helping her enter the field.
The significance of that encouragement is easy to miss when watching an established presenter. Confidence on air can look effortless after years of practice. Kara’s account describes an adjustment that involved training and learning to speak more freely to an audience.
Her early FM career included 93.9 iFM Manila, where she used the name Kara Lambingera. The station’s published history places her among the personalities associated with its January 2010 programming refresh. That provides an early marker in her radio career, although it should not be mistaken for a fully documented first day on air.
She subsequently became familiar to listeners of 101.1 Yes FM as Kara Karinyosa. A contemporary feature identifies her with the station and with Usapang LDR, which she hosted with Sexy Megan and which discussed long-distance relationships.
The program placed conversation alongside music. Relationships supplied the subject, while the presenters supplied the pace, reactions, and familiarity that could turn a broadcast into a regular listening habit.
The names Lambingera and Karinyosa also suited that approachable radio setting. Across her later station changes, “Kara” remained the recognizable part of her identity.
Her career then took her to 90.7 Love Radio, where her collaborations added another dimension to her public profile. One was KarLloyd, her pairing with vlogger and broadcaster Lloyd Cadena, who joined Love Radio in 2017.
Cadena’s career crossed radio and internet entertainment, making their pairing part of a period when the relationship between the two platforms was becoming increasingly visible. Listeners could encounter a personality on air and then follow the same person through online videos.
Lloyd also remained an important colleague in Kara’s public story after his death in September 2020. In 2024, she objected to a Love Radio social-media post that included him among choices concerning former DJs’ honesty. She said someone who had died could no longer defend himself. Nicole Hyala subsequently apologized and said she had asked for the post to be removed.
The episode showed Kara speaking up for a former collaborator’s memory. It is a documented example of a professional connection continuing to matter beyond the time two people shared a program.
Another major collaboration was with John Gemperle, known first as Papa Jack and later as Papa Jackson. Their pairing became known as KarJack, a combination of their on-air names. Broadcast histories place their work together in the Love Radio period before Papa Jack’s departure in December 2016.
For audiences, a radio tandem offers a relationship to follow as well as individual presenters. The exchange depends on timing: when to respond, when to challenge a remark, and when to let the other person finish. KarJack would become a recurring part of Kara’s identity on radio and online.
In 2019, she began a new chapter at 106.7 Energy FM. The introduction to her June 2020 VoiceMaster Show interview identifies her with the station and its Hot Stories program. At Energy FM, she became widely associated with the name Gandang Kara.
The move brought her career alongside Papa Jackson’s again. Their collaborations at the station included Gabi Na, Umaga Na! and later programming under the KarJack name. The partnership also reached viewers through vlogs; GMA Entertainment’s coverage of their 2021 Mars Pa More appearance introduced them as a radio and vlogging tandem.
This online work gave audiences a visual encounter with someone they had first known by voice. Expressions and gestures became part of the performance, while videos and livestreams allowed conversations to circulate beyond a scheduled radio slot.
Her own channel, Gandang Kara (DJ Kara), became another major part of her career. Its following has passed one million subscribers, and indexed 2026 videos include Realizations this 2026 – Hot questions!!! Her earlier uploads also document collaborations with people from her radio circle, including Lloyd Cadena.
These records show that her digital work developed alongside broadcasting. By the time she faced a major station change in 2026, she already had an established place online.
Her radio work also received recognition. At the 5th VP Choice Awards in 2024, Gandang Kara received a Hall of Fame trophy for Female Radio DJ of the Year, following three consecutive wins in the category. The organizers also reported that she and Papa Jackson won Podcast of the Year for KarJack Arrest.
Those awards belong to a specific awards program and should be understood in that context. They nevertheless provide a documented milestone for both Kara’s individual presenting work and her collaboration with Papa Jackson.
A more recent turning point came in April 2026. In a resignation announcement reported on April 7, Kara said she had left Energy FM after seven years. She had been due to take a new evening slot but decided to let go of the job.
“Starting today, I am no longer a DJ,” she wrote.
In the same announcement, she thanked supporters and reflected on the memories she would carry from the station. It was a significant departure for a personality whose name had become closely associated with Energy FM.
That update matters when introducing her today. Her Energy FM years form an important part of her career, but they should be described in the past tense. The resignation ended that station chapter; her body of voice work, broadcasting, and digital content remains part of the public identity she built.
The different names can initially make Kara’s career appear complicated. Following the microphone makes it easier to understand: a young dubber developed into an FM presenter, worked through several station identities, formed recognizable collaborations, and established a substantial video audience.
The people along that route each belong to a different part of the story. Pocholo Gonzales encouraged her entry into broadcasting. Sexy Megan shared a relationship-focused program with her at Yes FM. Lloyd Cadena was her KarLloyd partner. Papa Jackson became her recurring collaborator through KarJack.
Across those connections, Kara accumulated work that listeners and viewers could recognize as hers.
An anime character, a radio conversation, and a YouTube video require different kinds of performance. Klariz Magboo’s career connects all three. Whether an audience first encountered Kara Lambingera, Kara Karinyosa, or Gandang Kara, it was encountering a voice artist learning how to speak to people in another setting.
